What is Aikyam?

A celebration eight decades in the making

To mark 80 years of the United Nations, Sopaan presents Aikyam, a celebration of Oneness and Sustainability in consonance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Ajanta and Ellora, symbols of spiritual harmony and coexistence, provide the backdrop for Aikyam, a weekend event re-imagining their cultural and historical significance.

Proposed highlights include a ballet with the backdrop of the Kailasa Temple on peace and diversity, talks by eminent speakers, a culinary experience inspired by ancient food traditions, and a display of Maharashtrian handloom textiles.

Sopaan has partnered with UNESCO India and invited Mr. Timothy Curtis, Director of UNESCO's Regional Office in India, to deliver a keynote address at the Ellora event.

Dignitaries including Ambassadors and other diplomats representing their countries in India, patrons of art and culture, and eminent media will be invited for a weekend trip and taken on guided tours so that they can experience firsthand the importance of these caves as our shared heritage. Guests will also savour traditional Maharashtrian cuisine reinforcing sustainable practices. The entire weekend experience, including the talk and concert, will be non ticketed and non commercial.

Aikyam brings together the Union Ministry of Tourism, the Maharashtra State Government, UNESCO, embassies in india, international arts institutions, and corporate partners committed to reviving India’s cultural heritage.
