Sopaan - Getting ready for a start!

I am in the process of collecting information about how to get the NGO registered... the last few months have helped learn a lot of things, and gain a tremendous amount of perspective from various people about having your own NGO. The views range from "Oh God! not another NGO in the millions already present!" to "Hmm! interesting! so what do you intend on doing?"

And every such question has reassured me that what I am doing right now, though has been done by many before me, still remains something that people.

If you know some CA who has registered NGOs before and would have some bandwidth to work with me please do comment on this post. Some questions that I am really interested in finding answers for are

1. Do all the 9 people who are to sign the initial papers have to be in Delhi physically to sign the papers or is there a way around to that?

2. What are the alternatives in case I am not able to get 9 people to sign the initial application?

3. What are the positions that need to be identified at the initial stage?
4. What are the legal implications of signing the initial application? What becomes the responsibility of someone who is a co-applicant?

5. What is the process for getting an Income Tax exemption for the NGO and the donors/grants? Is this exemption time-bound?
